Throwback of My Earlier Designs

Taking a look back on my designs I created back in high school, which wasn't that long being class 11'. High school is where I became passionate about fashion design and other parts of the fashion industry. It's always good to reflect on your work to improve and see how far you've come. And looking back, I've definitely improved in many ways! As a fashion designer, I try to create a wide variety of designs. One of my favorites is creating gowns for all sorts of occasions. Well here's are a few designs from high school & a video I made, enjoy!

Battling Fall

“Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.”
~ Oscar Wilde

With that being said, it now time for fall fashion. In most places the weather is starting to challenge your style. Forcing you to overcome the weather challenges. Here in Chicago, its extremely windy and chilly. No time for shorts and sandals, more like coats and boots. Here are a few fall looks thus far!

In this look, I'm wearing a pair of ivory harem pants paired with a basic gray sweater from F21. As far as accessories, I'm wearing a heart stud necklace, a gray beanie, and gray combat boots.

Edgy fall look! I'm wearing a pair of faux leather pants paired with a denim blouse layered with a leather vest. I added a multi-color bracelet for the extra pop of color. Finished the look with a pair of gray knee high boots.
Just because its fall, doesn't mean its time to hide from color. Such a simple look with a pop of color! I'm wearing black leggings and an abstract print blouse, with a pair of black booties. Sometimes powerful pieces is best paired with simple items.

Fashion Focus Week

This week it's Fashion Focus Week in Chicago! There will be fashion shows and events all week long displaying many designers from Chicago. Some consider it to be Chicago's fashion week. Last night, I attended the Chicago Fashion Incubator Show (CFI). The show displayed six collections from different designers; Crystal B Designs, Cettina, Modahnik, Eric Kipp, Gidi, and Shavonne Dorsey Apparel. They had a geat mix of garments, ranging from mens wear to plus size and beyond. One of my favorites was the Modahnik collection, she used alot of vibrant African prints in her designs. Their music choice was also great; they had a live DJ and live performances. Its always great to mix music and fashion together!

Here are some more pics from the night! I was in the 3rd row so the pictures from the show aren't the best. I went with one of my friends from school and you might see my little sister from earlier in the day!

And here is my look for the night! Well since Chicago wind is crazy, I had to dress very warm. I wore a long gray coat and gray combat boots. Underneath my outerwear, I wore an electric blue dress and thick leggings. My goal was to dress comfortable and warm yet stylish. After all, I had to travel via train in 50 degree weather lol. However it was worth it!

Feature in True Star Magazine

Recently, I've been featured in the latest Fall issue of True Star Magazine. Its a magazine based out of Chicago that targets the youth. The magazine has a wide content of information, from relationships to style. I had a wonderful time at the shoot, always great to network with other people. It was like a mini party, with music blasting as you take photos. I got styled for the shoot from their stylist and make up artist. I modeled with a rising artist, Young Ree. We got interview on our style, my answer says "My fashion style is a combination of various eras. Often I mix-n-match retro trends with futuristic trends. Meanwhile, I add some spice to my looks from my Caribbean background. I'm definitely, not afraid to take a risk."

I'm now working along with their team for True Star Jr Styling. My first styling shoot with them is actually next week. Looking forward to it!
